Advanced Therapies

At HUG, we move beyond “one-size-fits-all” medicine. By analyzing the genetic makeup of your tumor, Prof. Dr. Addeo and his team select treatments that target the specific weaknesses of cancer cells.

Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy works by empowering your body’s own immune system to recognize and attack cancer cells. Unlike chemotherapy, which attacks all rapidly dividing cells, immunotherapy is often better tolerated and can lead to durable responses.

Checkpoint Inhibitors: These drugs release the “brakes” on the immune system, allowing T-cells to destroy tumors.

Targeted Therapy

If your tumor tests positive for specific genetic mutations (biomarkers), targeted therapies can be highly effective. These are often oral medications (pills) that block the signals causing cancer cells to grow.

Common Mutations Treated: EGFR, ALK, ROS1, BRAF, KRAS, and others.

Clinical Trials

HUG is a research hospital. We offer patients access to new treatments before they are widely available. Ask Prof. Addeo or your oncologist if a clinical trial is right for you.
